I learned how hard it was to change our society not even seventy years ago. People worked hard to get where they are today and we still don't have 100% equality. I would connect this to todays world with the new marriage equality laws that we just passed. A couple of the quotes from the movie that stuck out to me were "Be cool mother, be cool." The boys mother was terrified for the safety of her son, but she knew that he had to do this to make a difference. Another on was from Mayor West, " I had to decide whether my morals as a man was more important than what the city expected from me."
I found it unbelievable that 4,000 people participated in the march on Jefferson St.
I believe that the sit in was very effective because even though they arrested the four students sitting at the counter, another wave of students arrived directly, and another once they were arrested, and the cycle continued and the jails were filled.
