The essay " The Idea of a Local Economy really inspired my thinking. Just like the essay talks about, people, including myself, do not realize the destructiveness of our government. It also proved to me that people really do have the power, if we do not agree with something or like the ways things are being done, we have the power to change it which is something everyone usually tends to forget about. My favorite quote from the essay is "one does not know the history of the products that one uses..." and then goes on to ask who what, when, where, why, how questions that would be difficult for one to answer about the products he/she uses. I used that quote to tie into Brian and I's icon presentation about McDonalds. No one knows the back story behind the products but everyone continues to use them, maybe if they new the answers they wouldn't fell the same about their everyday products and/or eating habits.
A really big issue that I believe the community STILL does not give enough attention in the issue with animal extinction. It is said that the world will experience a mass extinction period where over 50% of the worlds animals will completely die off and disappear forever!!! If we do not change our bad habits of things like increasing CO2 admissions, deforestation, and using dangerous pesticides, this event could take place in up to a minimum of just 10 years..... over 50% of the worlds organisms will go extinct...forever... in our life times... Not only will this be one of the most devastating events in the entire worlds history but it will completely alter the world, food chains will be effected, climate, ecosystems ect... the list of chain reactions is never ending. I encourage everyone to watch the 3 part documentary "Racing Extinction" by the discovery channel. It's really life changing.
