Part One: Recovering from the Pack Rat Years
"A lighter storage closet leads to a lighter heart. " In this article Mr. Money Mustache talks about the benefits of owning less stuff, and offers some advice on how to reduce the amount of stuff in your life. He discusses the benefits of minimalism, and the lifelong burden that stuff bought only for the present entertainment value can add to your life. But he isn't completely against buying things besides the basics, he talks about how some unnecessary but useful electronics and objects can help simplify life.
The strengths to this article would be that the advice he offers is realistic, he doesn't think you should give up all modern-day convinces and just live off what is necessary, but that you should try to cut back on things that you won't find use for in the future. Also, that he includes personal examples from when he followed the advice that he gives in the article.
I think that this article is useful. I am somewhat of a pack rat, I keep a lot of stuff that I really don't have use for anymore. I've been trying to get rid of a lot of the stuff that I don't need anymore, and this article has given me a few ideas about how to do so.
Part Two:
A website that I find helpful is http://www.polishmywriting.com. After you finish writing something, whether it be an email or essay, you can copy and paste it into the designated box on the page and it will check for errors. It points out spelling mistakes, and gives grammar and style suggestions.

ReplyDeleteI agree that this is a useful article. MMM offers a way of thinking that could lead to living a more lightweight life, which I think would affect both physical and mental cleanliness for anyone who followed it. People who hold on to the objects in their lives for no good reason will usually find themselves buried under all of the stuff that ends up becoming less and less important the more of it that they have. This would add a lot of stress mentally because of the mess as well as fiscally, because the cost of all of these things would certainly add up over the years.
ReplyDeleteI think your website is also a great way to see in what ways your original writing was flawed, which can be very effective as a learning tool to improve your writing. I think that getting personal feedback is the best way to see how you can write more effectively.
