Exploration 5 part 1
Dixon Shapiro
The article I read was called "MMM Challenge: Can You go Car-Free This Weekend?" The main purpose of the article was to introduce the concept of freeing up your weekends by not using your car at all. Mr. Money Mustache said that if you don't use your car on the weekends, you will be able to enjoy the time you have with your family at home. He also talks about how people should not plan to do anything for the weekend. This way, there will be less stress to work on projects, and more time to relax your brain from what you did during the week.
One of the strengths of the article is that it provided a really good example as to why someone should follow Mr. Money Mustache's advice. However, it doesn't have any real facts as to the benefits of following his advice, and only his experiences are written to support his claim. I personally do not agree with this idea because if you don't plan ahead for what you are going to do over the weekend, it becomes that much harder to actually start something.
I still believed that this article was useful, because his idea is something that other people can utilize to make them healthier.

Going car free on the weekends would be hard for me. I generally work on the weekends and it's a twenty minute drive to get to my work and I'm not willing to bike that far. Would it save me in the long run? Probably but my car does get great gas mileage anyways. If I didn't work weekends and didn't have other plans then maybe I would but as it stands this isn't an option that I will chose. He does give great advice though.
ReplyDeleteI wish that were the case... not having to use my car at all during the weekends. It would save me so much money. As of now, I drive about a total of five hours, more or less, each weekend because I am so busy all the time. But hopefully once things settle down and I don't have to drive two hours away every weekend anymore, I think I'll take MMM's advice and stay at home.
