Exploration Five: Lillie Weber

After browsing Mr.Money Mustache's blog, I had stumbled upon a title of a blog named "Seven Weeks of Homelessness". This title had made me stop and think to myself, what could this be about? Did he try to live as if he were homeless? What does he mean? I was immediately drawn in!

The main purpose of writing that post was to show his readers that you don't have to have much in life to live a great life, and being frugal doesn't mean you cant live life happily. He also stresses that is it okay to occasionally buy things that you want rather than need, because it's only human. I enjoy the fact that he reveals that he is guilty of buying way to many things to try to feel happy, because I can relate to him on that level; this is the strength of this post, the way he is relationg emotionally to his viewers. He talks about how him and his family went traveling for seven weeks with just a few changes of clothes and one pair of shoes but still were the happiest they have ever been. He said, " I already know what it’s like to be happy with much less stuff.. so what’s stopping me from accomplishing it in my real life?"

One weakness of this post, I would say, is the fact that he is talking about how he his wanting to live a simple life, but goes on to say that he will still be doing at least 75% optional spending. I don't understand why he added that part in there if the point was to talk about spending less and choosing not to over indulge in shopping.

One blog that I follow is "Adventurous Kate: A Solo Female Travel Blog". During my senior year of high school I decided that I wanted to travel the world and experience new things. After doing some research I stumbled upon a blog. This blog just so happened to be Kate's. This website is very educational because not only does the author give tips for traveling and how to save money, but she also gives direct links to other websites that can help you prepare for traveling and help you find cheaper airfare.

This is Adventurous Kate in Sicily! A place I wish to visit some day!

  1. I think it is so cool that he was able to go on a 7 week vacation and bring only a small amount of stuff and still have the time of this life. It really is an eye opener. It shows you that you dont need all the fancy things in life to be happy. But I also agree with you on the part where you talked about why he put in his blog that he will still be doing 75% of his optional spending. Seems kinda contradicting if you ask me.

  2. The idea of being homeless reminded me of ramadan, a 28 to 31 day period were if you are muslim, you must fast until sunset. This means, as muslims we abstain from and ingestion into the body until sunset everyday as a way to be more understanding of what poor people have to struggle with, better or self control and truly show your devotion for god. I noticed too how MMM can contradict himself in his posts, especially this one where he is talking about smartly spending his money then goes on to say 75% of his spending will be on optional things which he could have done without. I personally wish i could just have the time to take a seven week vacation. Hopefully I can use mates website to find some cheap tickets and maybe get the show rolling on my own seven week vacation.
