Vietnam Medal of Honor: Thomas W. Bennett and William E. Adams-Brian Hageman

Thomas W. Bennett was an Army medic in the Vietnam War. He was a Southern Baptist who was extremely patriotic and willing to serve, but refused to kill because of his religious beliefs. A twenty-one year old Bennett was commissioned in Vietnam on January 1, 1969. Bennett risked his life multiple times for the lives of others. On February 9th, he ran out in the midst of gunfire to bring five wounded men to safety. On February 11th, Cpl. Bennett was gunned down while trying to save a soldier wounded by a sniper. Thomas W. Bennett was awarded the Medal of Honor for his concern with saving comrades at the cost of his own life above and beyond the call of duty. William E. Adams was a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. On May 25, 1971, Maj. Adams voluntarily took the responsibility of flying a lightly armored helicopter in attempt to save 3 heavily wounded soldiers from a small base that was under heavy fire from large enemy forces. He made this decision with full understanding that enemy anti-aircraft were positioned all over the base, and the clear weather would make him an easy target. Adams safely landed the aircraft and patiently waited for the soldiers to board the helicopter. He took off and shortly after was hit by heavy gunfire. He gained control of the helicopter and began to land. While landing, his aircraft was hit and exploded. Maj. Adams went above the call of duty in order to save 3 seriously injured soldiers. He lost his life in order to save others. This is important because there are heroes in the world that will do literally anything in order to save someone else's life. Both of these heroes had never met the soldiers they attempted to save. This is truly remarkable.
