Exploration Five- Jenny Kitzler

 Part- One
Mr. Money Mustache- Unleash your inner Hasselhoff for Greater Riches

This article is talking about a man who drives an hour to work everyday in a pickup because it's comfortable for him and occasionally has to haul things. After reading this and seeing the math that MMM had produced in the article it would be cheaper in long run to buy a new house in the same town that he works and drive a vehicle that fits the family an still gets 30 mpg.
Over a ten year time span they would save $256,000. But people in this generation don't see it as that, they feel as though they are losing out because they want the money NOW! The thing is is that you don't start out at the top, you work your way up despite how many things may get in your way it generally works out in your favor in the long run.
Another statement used in the article was "Well there is nothing in the fridge, so let's go out." If you have a five person family and you go out to eat that is about $12.00 a person give or take a couple of dollars. Dinner for one night for your family would cost anywhere from $50- $70. Give me the option to go out or go grocery shopping with that budget and I'll go grocery shopping. I would rather have enough food to last the whole week than one meal.
Something that this shows is laziness or the fact that people thinks it's too much of a hassle to go to the store and cook a meal, or a buy a house and move closer to your work place. People get comfortable and are afraid of change and don't realize that they could be much better off.
Money isn't everything, but don't complain about not having any when there are a million and one things that you can do to change that.
I agree with the meaning of this article it was quit an eye opener for me. I feel as though the strengths in this article were when MMM calculated the savings of the family over a ten year time frame, I didn't really see any weakness he had a very valid argument.

  1. I agree with Mr. Money Mustache's post; in the long run, this guy would be able to save a ton of money if he made some smart economic decisions. There are a ton of research papers that say that humans are extremely impatient, and if they do not see an immediate benefit from their actions, they are less likely to do it. But the people who make smart economic decisions know that the benefits will come if they are just a little bit patient.

  2. I agree with what MMM was saying. My family and I used to live so far away from my dad's work, and it took him a long time to get there every day. I even find myself doing that, like when I want lunch. Instead of going to the store and getting something to make, I end up going through a drive through, which ends up with me spending even more money in the long run. I think his post relates to the Fresh video because it is just another proof that people (especially in America) hate inconvenience.
