First of all, this man is funny. He seems to like taking "shots" at himself to prove his points, that's admirable to me. We can only know ourselves completely if we take the time to do so. This gives you the ability to be your own critic in both a good and bad way. I found this to be a wonderful article on wise money practices with practical advise and a respectful honor to anything that Mr. Money Mustache didn't fully agree about the original authors' opinion. I think this is one of the strengths of his article, respectful disagreement. None of this calling out on the carpet with a death match in mind. Just conversation, I say something you add, subtract, or completely math it.
I agree with the article but it's not the first time I've come across a similar concept. My introduction was by a Dave Ramsey with the Financial Peace Institute who has similar ideals. I feel that the article is useful and applicable due to the fact I've lived by most of the rules for a few years now. The key ideals of maximizing your earnings and questioning yourself if the item purchase was worth your life's "time" to acquire.
It has allowed my wife and I to save up for a house and to have peace knowing that the bills are paid. No need to run and hide or live fearfully from creditors. I'm not a fan of purchasing on credit for to me it's like enjoying an extra sweet with the intention of exercising without getting to the exercise part. Don't take me the wrong way, credit does serve a purpose and is helpful if you have an emergency expense that you can not afford at the moment. The key word is emergency though; otherwise, you are back to the sweets analogy.

One of websites that I regularly use is the Marion Public Library's research page. If I'm in need of an ideal for a research paper, need to figure out how to fix my car, or want to look up my ancestry this is my go to page. It has many more uses but those mentioned are my primary uses for the site.

I hold the same stance as you do with Mr. Money Mustache's argumentative skills and how he approaches certain items that he finds to be off, or challenges his statements. He definitely does try to be respectful to his opponent when stating his opposing opinion, while supporting it with his well-written views. It results with him being a strong, likable character.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your second post about how a library can be used as an educational tool for the average person to comprehend society more fluently and understand certain studies and topics that relate to him.
I agree that it is always nice to have backup money for whenever there may be a costly setback, i do that myself. The way that you put the Marion's research page makes me really want to try this in the near future (mainly for free consumer reports). but i'll also remember to try it out if i ever need help with an essay!
