One of the most important things Mr. Money Mustache talks about is saving. This whole post was about having the money talk with your partner. Mr. Money Mustache mainly talked about how easy it is to save. He talks about how you can cut out on all the unnecessary purchases like grabbing a snack everyday from somewhere when you can easily pack one yourself. Or cutting down on all the purchases you make and really evaluating if you need them or not. He said he sat down and had this talk with Mrs. Money Mustache. They talked about retiring BEFORE they had kids, and they did the math and realized they totally could! After making spreadsheets and getting all of their spending statements together, they realized they were spending a lot more than they needed too. After all of this, they realized that cutting down on all the extra spending really could allow them to retire early. After the couple had this talk, they were able to save and have a smooth sailing relationship when dealing with finances.
I agree with what Mr. Money Mustache is saying. I personally spend a lot of little money here and there on things I definitely don't need. If I cut out on all of those costs, I would be able to have a large sum saved up easily. This post is very useful, and it has really opened my eyes to my spending.

ReplyDeleteThis MMM seems like a great read. Everyone at one point will have to have that "talk" with their significant other, it's very important to do so and a definite necessity in my opinion. Sitting down to do the math on how much money can be saved and how easy it is to do so is great advice from Mr. Money Moustache. The future seems very far away but planning out finances years ahead is something we should all be doing.

ReplyDeleteI wonder how much the average American spends on the "small things" like snacks or coffee. I think that we spend more than we realize. I admire Mr. Money Mustache for taking the time to sit down with his wife and talk about their spending. As we learned in the "Stop Googling. Let's Talk" article, it has become hard for us to sit down and talk about deeper things. Spending is an unpleasant topic for most people to talk about due to the fact that you have to face all the problems associated with it. MMM faced that and as a result they are now seeing more benefits than ever. Great insight on this article!
Your website looks like something I would definitely enjoy! I love anything that has to do with DIY and I have actually considered majoring in interior design before, so this seems like a really cool blog.
