Part 1
Mr. Money Mustache titled this article "High Cost of Living - it's a State of Mind." In it, he talks about how expensive life can be and how to go about it in a cheaper way. As an example, he mentions how expensive it is to vacation, or more so, live, in Hawaii. He used specific examples like how milk is $10 a gallon, gas is $5, and drinks can be $14. Crazy! So, he goes on to explain that many people live an expensive lifestyle, and it doesn't have to be that way if people "consume less of what is expensive, and replace it with what is cheap and plentiful locally." He explained how most mainland residents of the US move to Hawaii and still have the mindset that they do when they were on the mainland, which includes driving everywhere, paying for air conditioning, and importing food, when they really don't need to do all of that. He furthers his argument with ways to figure out how to shop well, like instead of paying $8.19 for a box of cereal, use your money more wisely. He also advised people to shop at a local Costco because you can buy more items for your money. Mr. Money Mustache finishes of with telling his readers to use the area that they live in to their advantage, because areas with wealthy people are expensive, so buy items on Craigslist to save. He believes we could spend more and continue the same lifestyle, or we could shrink our lifestyle and spend the same amount or less than we do now since a simpler lifestyle would in no way compromise our happiness.
I agree with what he was saying in his article, that people should replace their more expensive items with ones that easily take it's place and save them money. It really is a state of mind, living expensively, and it is one that really no one needs to survive. This article is useful and I think many people can relate and take his advice.

Part 2
I found this YouTube channel a few years ago, and it really interested me from the get go. It is called Blogilates, and it is run by a girl, Cassey Ho, who runs a blog about pilates, believe it or not, and other workouts. She has her own website where you can find all sorts of things, like a workout calendar, meal plans, recipes, and much more. You can find videos on her blog and on YouTube. Her entire blog is a way to reach out to people to show them how to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

I agree with you and this article too. I happen to have a Costco Membership, and I have saved a lot of money with it. I also read a research paper about how expensive it is to live in big-name cities, and that it would be much cheaper to live somewhere close by it. That way, you can get the experiences of the people that live in the expensive city, but at the same time, you save money by not paying the expenses of living there.
ReplyDeleteLiving expensively really is a state of mind. It's also people trying to fit in. They want to be the rich guy with expensive clothes and vehicles and other materialistic things. It's sad that our generation cares so much about those things and not about what really matters. I love your blog idea as well. I always say I'm going to eat healthier and exercise more and I never follow through, maybe something like this could me on the right track.
