Eng 1110.01 Exp.3 Cole Haferman

 1.    Nearly three months ago today I first sat down in a car with three pedals instead of two and learned how to use a clutch for the first time. The day I learned how to drive a manual vehicle didn't dramatically change my life but it did improve it and more importantly gave me a life experience I will remember and cherish forever. The process was slow and difficult at first, with a number of stalls and a popped clutch here and there, but I inevitably improved and was soon driving on my own and enjoying the newfound feeling of changing gears.

2.     "Issues of policy are questions about what we should do and how we should implement our aims" (Trimbur 58). These issues are most commonly seen in today's world when dealing with the important issues that divide people in the political realm because the media directs our attention to these issues over others equally important. Mainly because American politics is so heavily centered on the winner take all system that this is what we are given.

3.     One issue that I have followed and harbored a strong opinion on for a long time is the issue of capital punishment, the legalized killing of another as punishment for a crime. I am in agreeance with the millions of others who oppose the death penalty on the belief that you cannot justify killing another human being regardless of the crime they might have committed. If we as a society allow this to continue we ourselves are no better than the murderer who committed the crime and become murderers ourselves. This issue is an issue of policy which raises the question about capital punishment and what to do about it in America.

Capital punishment is wrong and needs
to be outlawed.

  1. I can relate with you about learning to drive a manual. I started to learn 2 years ago and just like you there were PLENTY of embarresing stop lights due to stalling out. But after learning I almost have a passion for driving stick.
