Exploration Two from Jenny Kitzler

Hello all my name is Jennifer (Jenny) Kitzler I'm 20 years old and I'm majoring in Psychology. I graduated in 2014 from Carey High School. This is my second year at OSUM and I love the campus my peers and my professors. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

My fun fact in class was that I have 23 first cousins. Another fun fact about me is that I have never had those dip n dots things.

I have two dobermans their names are Hera and Zeus and I have one cat his name is Peanut.

The past two years I have worked in retail at Sally Beauty Supply in Findlay, Ohio. The best part about my job is being able to help people and making people feel good about themselves.
I have one older brother, Kyle, he is eight years older than me. Oppose to most other siblings we are actually very close and get along quite well. I have a nephew, Nick, he is eight years old, I have another nephew, Gavin, who is a year and a half old, and a niece, Mikylyn, who is nine months old. My niece and nephews are the most important people in my life. It's funny how little children can help you get through some of the toughest times and make you smile when all else fails.
Other than school, work, and spending time with family I don't really do too much.

The reading that really stood out to me was the story of The Life of Frederick Douglas. I was never ignorant of the fact that they were treated poorly and unfairly but after reading this I realized that were deemed "unworthy" of even learning to read or write their own language. I could not image having to passion and the want to learn and getting denied that right just because of my skin color. In the text Mr. Auld tells his wife that once taught how to read and write that Frederick would become discontented and unhappy. After reading that it really made me realize how selfish that statement was. He wasn't afraid that he would be unhappy, he was really afraid of Frederick becoming educated and being able to leave and no longer be a slave. Not only was he afraid of Frederick leaving but also taking others with him and diminishing the slave population.

  1. I agree that children have the power to make one smile in the worse of things. It's something about how their faces and personalities light up the room as they interact with the world around them. One of my highlights in my job is to see a child "light up" the room when they find, or are given, a book that they like.

    1. I love watching them grow to be there own person and they are all siblings but they all are so different as well. My nephew Nick loves to read. His favorite books are Harry Potter.

    2. I agree with you, Charlie, about children! I love kids, and love hearing their ideas. They are so excited to learn.

  2. I also agree that i couldn't imagine that such a simple thing. How could reading be too much for Mr. Auld to allow?
