"Issues of evaluation are questions about whether something is good or bad, right or wrong, desirable or undesirable, effective or ineffective, valuable or worthless" (The Call to Write, p.58). This is a big part of issues because it shows one taking a side of which they believe in. To argue a point responsibly a person must know where they stand on an issue and why they feel that way. People use the issues of evaluation everyday in life, for example when shopping for a new car is Ford or Chevy the better choice?
An issue that is very important to me as a young citizen is the issue of police brutality. There have been many cases that have shocked America like the Ferguson case, or the videos of Sandra Bland, Walter Scott, Samuel Dubose, being shot for no good reason, or arrested for making a cop angry. Who knows how long police brutality this disgusting and repulsing had been going on for. Probably since the beginning where blacks were not treated as equals to white Americans. The fight for civil rights is still, even with laws in place, not a resolved issue.Everyone deserves to be treated equal, as I and many other people in the world know and accept without issue. Police officers are supposed to be safety figures, someone everyone in America is supposed to be able to rely on, not someone to be scared of. This is a very well known social issue in the US currently but I am sure that there are similar struggles with people not accepting others, all over the world. Some believe that anyone shot by a cop or arrested deserved it, because the cops are "taking the trash off the streets." Yes, it is good to have cops to keep our environments safe from violence or drugs but no person deserves to be unlawfully arrested, beaten, or murdered by a cop. That is not only an opinion, but a law. I take this position against police brutality because I want to stand up for equality, fairness, and the love of all people, no matter what their differences might be.

I slacked on my first homework assignment also, I received a 4-10 on a math assignment. I was expecting much higher! later in that class though my professor explained that she also grades for neatness, and that it didn't matter if you were right, if she can't ready it. Ever since then my homework papers have taken two to three times longer.
ReplyDeleteThat is why I believe that body cameras should be required for all police officers. That way there would be indisputable video evidence of each interaction that an officer would be having with a civilian. That way if there was a chance that they were abusing their power or anything at all was in question about their actions then you could play back the video and see whether or not what they did was necessary.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your first paragraph completely. I think that college is lot different than high school. In high school, I alway had people getting on me when I didn't have my homework done, or when an assignment was late. In college, there is no one to tell me when my assignments are due. It's my responsibility to get my homework done and study for my test. It was a big shock going into college.
