Exploration Four- Lillie Weber

After watching the film, "Fresh", I have decided to take a better look at what I am eating. It interested me because honestly I have not really known where my meat was raised or HOW they were raised. Within the movie, an author by the name of Michael Polland, stated "...the more you process food, the less nutritious it is". In my opinion, this was one the most important themes within the movie. When I was doing a little bit more research on how often we eat processed foods, I found out that 70 percent of America's diet involves processed foods (Ryssdal, 2013).

Within the same article, the author states, "Cookies, crackers, cereal, even yogurt, crammed with various chemicals that'll let it sit on the shelf for a good long time, all the while containing enough sugar and salt to make it taste good." Honestly I believe that everyone has turned a blind eye to that. Some people truly believe that they are eating healthy because they are eating yogurt, but what they don't know is how many chemicals are in that yogurt.

  1. It's good to take a step back and figure out what you are eating, bad thing is that almost no american does. Most just see food and say "hey, that looks pretty good" and then procede to stuff whatever they can into their mouth. It's honestly really gross to see what america has turned into. Awareness just need to be raised about what really goes on when making these food.

  2. It's unbelievable how much junk we are actually consuming. What upsets me the most is the we are suppose to trust our consumers and distributors but we can't, it's all about how much money they can make and how quickly they can make it. If they wouldn't take it home to feed their families they shouldn't sell it to ours. With the knowledge that we do have it is time to take a stand against the processed food and start to make a difference by going local or starting your own garden, something as simple as that can make a world of a difference.

  3. This documentary really made me think a lot about where my food comes from too. I have found myself looking at labels on my food and seeing how many of them contain corn syrup and soybean oil. Its really sad America has let our food industry get this out of hand.
