My name is Dixon Shapiro. I am half-Japanese, and I was born in Japan. I moved to America when I was five years old, and settled down in Marysville when I was six. I used to be Jewish, along with the rest of my family, but recently, I have declared myself to be Agnostic.
For the reading "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass," the idea that stood out to me the most was that this person had an epiphany, where he realized that the things his master was afraid of, like Frederick learning how to read, was a great power to use to become a free man. I also learned from the whole chapter that literacy events translates emotions and actions into words, where the whole world can understand important events. It can also be as simple as sending a message to yourself or to others. Frederick Douglass's writing demonstrated that his words were translated from his emotions, and that the moment where Douglass had his epiphany created a strong literacy event in his writing.

I think it is super cool that you are from Japan. That is a place that I have always wanted to visit and I couldn't imagine being able to live there even if it was when you were super young.

ReplyDeleteI have a friend that was born in Japan and he said he loved it. His dad works for Honda and had to be in Japan for a couple years. I've heard all about how life is over there.
