My name is Emily Shearer. I am eighteen years old and graduated from Rutherford B. Hayes High School. I absolutely love music: playing guitar, singing, listening to it, finding new songs - I love it all. My range in genres of music is just about endless. Another great love of mine is being surrounded by mountains, as weird as that may sound; it brings me comfort. I love to explore, and hope to travel the world during and after I graduate. I am an approachable person; I'm someone that will talk to anyone that talks to me. I care deeply about other people and like getting to know others' interests and hobbies. I am so thankful to have been born a Buckeye. It's amazing to me to be a part of something so big and so devoted that it brings so many people close together. Next year, I plan to transfer to the Columbus campus, but that's not stopping me from enjoying life at OSUM. As many people are, I'm especially excited this upcoming football season, and I can't wait to go to games as an official student!A theme that stood out to me in "The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" was that reading and writing are so important in our day-to-day lives, and often times we don't really think about how lost we would be if no one could teach us new, different things. Douglass basically had no other choice than to be his own teacher. It takes a great amount of motivation to teach yourself something new; his perseverance was admirable.
I agree with your views on Douglas's piece. I think that writing is essential in todays society, and Douglas worked hard to become what he did.
