Exploration Two: Lillie Weber

Hello everybody! My name is Lillie Weber and I am currently a freshman majoring in Nursing. In my free time I mostly watch Netflix (any show that has to do with crime or ghosts), take pictures, or snuggle up to my cats. In high school I was very active in my photography class. I enjoy taking pictures of animals, nature, and candid shots of my family. You could say I take WAY to many pictures of cats though... and honestly sometimes they are not even my cats. Oh well! I will put some of my pictures down below.

Flowers outside of my house- they were actually very small!

My cat named Cyrus; he was only a kitten in this picture.

Anyways, I also work at a tanning salon/laundromat in my hometown of Delaware, Ohio. So many people ask me, "How do you work at such a weird place?" All I say is with great patience and an open mind. Not everything I see in the laundromat is bad. Our regulars have some really fascinating life stories I must say! Some Vietnam vets, 94 year old couples with a life full of adventure, and some homeless people with sad memories. My customers make me a better person. I have learned to not judge a book by it's cover and that people have it worse than I do.

Within Chapter one, the reading titled "Just Girls: Hidden Literacies and Life in Junior High", stood out to me the most. The theme that social status is even evident through reading and writing is prominent. All the examples within Chapter one has made me better understand what a literacy event really is. A literacy event is an encounter with reading or writing that has influenced the way you think or act. In the exert that stood out to me the most, the author talks about how reading and writing in the year book has made her think of social status and the things mentioned within the text expresses her feelings about her encounter.
