Exploration 3- Jared Wolfe

I recently learned the value of decision making. At the beginning of this year, I knew what colleges I was accepted to and it was time to make the important choice of which university I wanted to attend. I narrowed my choice between the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University at Marion. I loved everything about UC, from the campus to the academics. My sister is currently a student at UC, and it would have been nice to be close to her. However, I had very similar feelings about OSU. I grew up in love with The Ohio State buckeyes, watching them play every Saturday and visiting campus from time to time. Keeping these things in consideration, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I ended up paying the acceptance fee for UC, but something just did not feel right. A few weeks later I told my parents and the roommates I had lined up how I felt and made the switch to OSU Marion. Although it was a tough decision for me, it taught me how to handle situations like these better. I went with my gut feeling and I am very happy with where I am now.

Issues of evaluation deal with morality. This includes comparing what is right and wrong, values and desirability. Arguments and discussions almost always involve issues of evaluation and we can see it everyday in our lives.

An issue that has recently piqued my interest is cops being required to wear cameras. There have been all kinds of reports in the media this past year of police misconduct on civilians. So much so that I believe it's a huge problem in today's world. Though it's a huge problem, I truly believe there's a simple fix: required body cameras. It seems that police reports never match up with victim reports. If police were to simply wear body cameras that recorded all that they did, problems like these would not be so prevalent. All of the police brutality reports in the media wouldn't have been such a huge controversy if there was recorded evidence of the event. Although requiring police to wear body cameras may be costly, it would definitely be worth it in my opinion. There would be far less disputes between police, witnesses and victims of police brutality.

  2. I completely agree with you jared. There have been countless incidents in just this past year of police brutality that a lot of people weren't sure with how exactly it happened. With body cameras the proof would be right there and almost surely you could tell whether it was just or not just from the feed.

  3. I completely agree with you on requiring body cameras on police officers. I don't have the link but there was a video of two police officers making a split second decision to open fire on a man who pulled a very convincing fake gun on them. The man ended up dying and if it weren't for the video evidence the two officers would have been accused of killing the defenseless man. But because they had cameras that showed they were acting in what they believed was self defense, they were off free and clear. If it weren't for the body cameras they would have been charged. Body cameras should be required to keep us safe, as well as keep officers safe.

  4. I think that body cameras on police officers are a great idea. There aren't any situations that I can think of where documentation of the event in question wouldn't make things more fair for all parties involved. The only question would be the cost of the cameras and the price of all the data storage. I think that body cameras are well worth the cost in this case.

  5. I think that requiring police to wear body cameras could solve a lot of problems. Though I haven't really ever considered that as a solution before, I do now. We have proven so much from film in the past and I think that it could clear up a lot of confusing things that are happening with the police brutality currently.
